WHO WE ARE
Laguna Acoma Connections (LAC) began in 1955 with funding by the U. S. Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration. LAC provides employment and training service to American Indian adults with disabilities residing on the Laguna and Acoma Reservations. Services are also available to tribal members who reside in Albuquerque and Grants.
Laguna Acoma Connections can assist individuals in identifying their needs and obtaining the proper assistive technology and ultimately, gainful employment.
Individuals eligible for services are:
WHAT IS IMPAIRMENT?
Impairment is a physical or mental disability that is a barrier to employment.
Traumatic Brain Injury
Services for individuals are based on individual need, interest, ability, selection of career goals, and availability of jobs. Vocational rehabilitation services are highly variable in view of individual need and employment options. Services may include the following:
Support for job sampling
Counseling and guidance
(e. g. tuition, books, supplies)
and/or uniforms or clothing for employment
When an individual had demonstrated 90 days of continuous employment, their cases are reviewed and closed.
To improve the opportunities for American Indian
adults with disabilities to become employed.
To assist individuals with disabilities in becoming
contributing and employed members of the community.
APPLICATION FOR SERVICES
Individuals may apply for services directly to Laguna Acoma Connections or be referred by an agency, family, or community member. Individuals applying for services must submit a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB). If an individual receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or SSDI, a letter indicating eligibility for monthly support should be submitted at the time of application.
