COVID-19 PUA - FAQ

The New Mexico Department of Work Force Solutions is providing Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) for self-employed, independent contractors, and gig economy workers who became unemployed, had hours reduced, or had an inability to work as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) is an emergency benefit that provides up to 39 weeks of unemployment insurance benefits to people not otherwise eligible for regular unemployment benefits.

Begin the process by applying for regular UI benefits. After you receive a denial, you can proceed to apply for PUA benefits.

 

You will be required to submit an acceptable form of proof of earning, which includes copies of income tax forms such as the following:

 

  • Self-employed: Forms 1040, schedules C, F, or SE
  • Partnerships: Forms 1040, 1065, schedule F, K-1
  • Corporations: Forms 1040, 1120, 1120A, schedule E, SE
